This year’s NCWQ bursary award ceremony was one to remember. Among the many special women being recognised for their achievements and talents, was Marnie Leahy.
Receiving the NCWQ Hon. David Littleproud MP bursary, Marnie was recognised for her achievements in a number of areas.
This bursary, sponsored by Mr David Littleproud, Member for Maranoa, in the House of Representatives, was offered for the first time in 2017. In recognition of the difficulties experienced by country students wishing to pursue their education, this bursary is for a female student in their first year of tertiary studies. The value of the bursary is $1000.00.
To apply for this bursary, the following criteria must have been addressed:
• Are a female first year, full-time student in a tertiary course, such as at university, TAFE, the Conservatorium of Music
• Are a constituent of the Maranoa electorate, Queensland although you may have relocated for your studies.
• Have been involved in your home community, through activities such as in your school, sports, or services, and are engaging in community activities in your place of study
• Are an Australian citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia
NCWQ is very pleased to award this bursary to Marnie in 2018.
Marnie is enrolled f/t on-line to complete a Bachelor of Education specialising in Early Childhood at Central Queensland University.
Marnie’s family home is in Noonga – 22km. north of Jackson and she attended Miles State High School a 180km round trip each day.
In 2017, as well as studying five Year 12 subjects she completed a school based traineeship, Certificate 3 in Childcare and also a Uni-head start degree in Science Fundamentals to gain qualifications for University.
Marnie currently works four days at the Murilla Long Day Care Centre to support herself and studies the other day and weekends.
She has a burning desire to be a Kindergarten Teacher and a really good one!
