Report from NCWQ Bursary Program Manager, Kathy Cavanagh AM
The idea of the NCWQ Bursary Program was conceived in 2009 by two members of the then Management Committee – Noela O’Donnell AM and Gloria Kirkness, and supported by their president, Pat Burgess. Noela remains actively involved with the program.
The program started with two bursaries, both sponsored by NCWQ. The first few years saw growth to about 12 bursaries three years later. This has increased to around 35 in each of the last few years. Over its 16 years, the Bursary Program has supported 386 recipients.
This year’s Bursary Presentation held at The Women’s College on 20 July, was a very special occasion for our bursary recipients, this year a total of 35, with 20 in attendance at the presentation. They came from across the State, from Cooktown to Brisbane, and many places in between.
NCWQ sponsored two bursaries, another in conjunction with Quota Brisbane. Our other Sponsors included the three levels of government, affiliated organisation of NCWQ, and individuals. Thank you to all of the generous supporters – the program wouldn’t happen without you.
Team Bursary consists of about 10 coordinators and 20 members of selection panels. Thank you – you are also essential to running the program. As the NCWQ Bursary Program Manager, I rely on this team to for administration and all those difficult selection decisions.
For many years, Mr Kley McPherson has been the unseen ‘magician’ in making the online application process work. Thank you Kley – your work is much appreciated.
