2023 Bursary Update

NCWQ’s 15th Annual Bursary presentation will take place on Saturday 16 September, at The Women’s College, UQ.

NCWQ Members and guests are invited to attend as we present more than 30 bursaries to worthy recipients.

The Honourable Shannon Fentiman MP, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, will be joining us to recognise and congratulate the worthy bursary recipients.

This is also an opportunity to thank the generous bursary sponsors for their support.

About the President

Chiou See Anderson

Chiou See Anderson is the President of the National Council of Women of Queensland (2019-Present), President of the National Council of Women of Australia (2021-2024) and Assistant Treasurer/Board Member for the International Council of Women (2022-2025). In May last year, Chiou See represented NCWA at the ICW-CIF General Assembly 2022 and successfully won the bid for Australia to host ICW-CIF General Assembly 2025. In September 2022, Chiou See was appointed to the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Women Economic Equality Taskforce.

Chiou See holds a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology and Master of Business Administration from Deakin University. She is a Fellow CPA and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Chiou See owns and operates Elements Retirement Village @ Springwood and @ Carindale with over 260 residents. She also chairs Conpago – a technology platform business based in Brisbane and is a member of the Advisory board for CityCave.

About the Guest Speaker

Hon Shannon Fentiman MP

Shannon Fentiman is Queensland’s Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Minister for Mental Health and Minister for Women.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons) from QUT and a Master of Laws from Melbourne University. She was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in 2007.

Shannon is committed to social justice and throughout her career has worked to improve the lives of working people. She is passionate about fighting discrimination and unfairness at work and in the community.

Prior to her election to the Queensland Parliament as the Member for Waterford, Shannon worked as a solicitor for Hall Payne Lawyers. She has considerable experience in employment law having previously worked as an industrial advocate and as a Judge’s Associate in the Supreme Court of Queensland to her Honour Justice Atkinson.

Shannon has also been a board member of the Logan Women’s Health and Wellbeing Centre, Secretary of the Centre Against Sexual Violence in Logan and the Duty Solicitor at the Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre.
