Mayor Luke Smith Bursary: meet our 2018 recipient!

This year’s NCWQ bursary award ceremony was one to remember. Among the many special women being recognised for their achievements and talents, was Kaitlyn Read.

Receiving the Mayor Luke Smith bursary, Kaitlyn was recognised for her achievements in a number of areas.

Key bursary criteria included the following:

  • A female resident of Logan City
  • Enrolled in full-time tertiary study
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to leadership in your local community

NCWQ is very pleased to award this bursary to Kaitlyn in 2018.

As a third year student of a Bachelor Paramedic Science/Bachelor Nursing degree at QUT, Kaitlyn Read is putting the knowledge she is gaining to good use and demonstrating her commitment to the community. e.g. she gives 2-3hr mentoring sessions weekly as a student paramedic mentor.

Recently she extended her volunteering experience in a health immersion program through Gap Medics for two weeks in Pula, Croatia.  In previous years she has volunteered with the cancer council, red cross blood service and rotary.

Her goal is to serve the local community by working as a paramedic and registered nurse when she qualifies.

Congratulations Kaitlyn! We are so looking forward to following your exciting ongoing journey.
