This year’s NCWQ bursary award ceremony was one to remember. Among the many special women being recognised for their achievements and talents, were Josie Roche and Sarah MacDougal.
Receiving the NCWQ Ipswich City Council Tertiary bursaries, Josie and Sarah were recognised for their achievements in a number of areas.
Ipswich City Council is a long-term donor to the NCWQ bursary program. Valued at $1000.00 each, two bursaries are available for female residents of Ipswich undertaking full-time tertiary study. Applicants are expected to have been involved in their local community. Since 2017 two new bursaries valued at $1000.00 each, were added to assist female residents of Ipswich undertaking full-time secondary study. (A different application form is available for these.)
To apply for this bursary, the following criteria must be addressed in the Personal Statement. You are:
- A female resident of Ipswich City Council area
- Enrolled in full-time tertiary study (university, TAFE, etc.)
- Able to demonstrate commitment to leadership within your local community
- An Australian citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia
NCWQ is very pleased to award this bursary to both Josie and Sarah.
Josie Roche
hopes that she will be able to do this every single day when she graduates next year.
Her community work is also centred around children, from sponsoring families through the Queensland Times Adopt-a-Family Christmas Appeal, helping primary students to read and then she completed a student practicum placement at a children’s mental health service in Ipswich.
Josie is also working part time as an occupational therapy assistant with three children with autism. As she said in her application “each one of these activities has made a difference in a child’s life, which is something of great importance to me, and brings me immense joy”.
Being a proud Ipswich resident for the whole of her 22 years and showing her commitment to helping others in her community, Josie is very worthy recipient of the Ipswich City Council Tertiary Bursary.
Sarah MacDougal
“Leadership is something that has always played an important role in my life. Holding myself accountable for my actions in front of people who look up to me essentially directs my decisions and my actions in life“ Sarah’s opening remarks in her application.
She was House Captain at her high school, became a youth leader and worship leader at her local church, a local volunteer and then volunteered as a missionary in Malaysia at aged care facilities and orphanages. She ended her high school career as Dux of her cohort.
Sarah’s passion is Speech Pathology which is her field of study and she is aspiring to be a paediatric speech pathologist. This was fostered by her work with Autistic children at the orphanages. She hopes to continue her work with her Church as a youth leader, overseas missionary and musician, influencing as many lives in as many different ways as she possibly can.
