About The Bursary program

NCWQ Bursaries are awarded to the successful Queensland female student applicants for one of the range of bursaries on offer each year.

NCWQ Bursary Recipients demonstrate qualities of leadership; community service; perseverance; and determination, often despite life’s obstacles, to follow their personal and professional passions.

2022 Timeline

  • Monday 4 April 2022– Applications open
  • Monday 23 May 2022 – Applications close NOW CLOSED
  • Monday 11 July 2022 – All applicants will be advised of the selection panel’s decision. ANNOUNCED
  • 27 August 2022 – Bursary Presentation will be held in Brisbane. EVENT HELD.

NCWQ holds an annual bursary fund-raising morning tea and fashion parade to help raise funds for the NCWQ-sponsored bursaries.

NCWQ Bursaries are awarded to the successful Queensland female student applicants for one of the range of bursaries on offer each year.

The Bursary program, through NCWQ and its sponsors, offers a range of bursaries, to assist Queensland women with their educational expenses. Most bursaries are valued between $1,000 to $1,500 each.

The Bursary Listing details the specific criteria for each bursary on offer.

Since the Bursary Program commenced in 2009, over 200 bursaries have been offered

The bursary timeline for 2022 is:

  • Monday 4 April 2022 – Applications open.

  • Monday 23 May 2022 – Applications close. Applications submitted or post-marked after that date will not be considered

  • Monday 11 July 2022 – All applicants will be advised of the selection panel’s decision after 11 July 2022. Please note that no correspondence will be entered into for feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

  • The Bursary Presentation will be held in Brisbane 27 August 2022 TBC. Arrangements to be confirmed, in accordance with relevant Coronavirus restrictions. See here for updates

Bursary Program 2022 – Awards Presented, Yearbook released

There was a buzz in the Parliamentary Annex as people gathered for the bursary presentation for the 14th NCWQ Bursary Program. An Update from Helena Franco, Office of Women (Leadership) Bursary Recipient

The Department of Justice and Attorney General, through their Office for Women, has been a supporter of the NCWQ Bursary Program for a number of years. Four bursaries were sponsored in the 2021 NCWQ Bursary Program. Helena Franco was the recipient of the Office of Women (Leadership) Bursary.  Helena is now studying at Harvard Medical School and she has kindly provided an update on her move to the USA and her studies.

The National Council of Women of Qld. Inc., which has been working for women in Queensland since 1905, is part of NCWA Inc. which was recognised by the Australian Government as one of three peak Women’s organisations in 2000.
